Pseudocholinesterase activity in thyroid disease.

چکیده
The present evidence indicates that serum pseudocholinesterase activity is increased to about 20% above the normal level in thyrotoxicosis and decreased by about 30% in myxoedema. Treatment restores the esterase level to the average mean activity of random normal as the patient becomes euthyroid. There is no evidence in the present investigation that any of the pseudocholinesterase variants modify these conclusions.

Paraoxonase role in dyslipidemia in thyroid disease (review article)
Introduction: Thyroid disease e.g. hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and subclinical hypothyroidism are among the most common endocrine disorders. Dyslipidemia is prevalent in thyroid diseases and lipid oxidation due to oxidative stress play an important role in the pathogenesis of thyroid diseases. Antioxidant enzymes such as paraxonase have a protective role in these patients and their activit...
متن کاملA Study of Pseudocholinesterase Activity in Acute Myocardial Infarction: an Old Study Revisited
Introduction: Ischaemic Heart Diseases are becoming progressively commoner in the younger persons of third and fourth decade. A massive rise in the levels of SGOT, LDH, CPK, during myocardial infarction suggest large infarct with poor prognosis. Earlier and rapid fall in the pseudocholinesterase level may have a poor prognosis. Aims and objectives: To Study incidence, levels and patterns of Pse...

Introduction:The post-surgical management of patients with differentiated thyroid cancer include ablation of remnant local and distant metastatic tissues with 131I therapy, which accentuates isolation of the patient in order to avoid unnecessary radiation exposure to the care givers, general public and the environment. The duration of isolation is subject to the redu...
متن کاملThe effects of azidothymidine therapy on pseudocholinesterase concentrations in asymptomatic HIV-positive patients.
The purpose of this study was to determine if a correlation exists between long-term azidothymidine (AZT) therapy and low pseudocholinesterase concentrations in patients who are infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). A pilot study was conducted of 10 patients infected with HIV, 5 of whom were receiving AZT. Laboratory tests, including complete blood count (CBC), liver function te...
متن کاملDetermination of acetylcholinesterase and pseudocholinesterase in gastrointestinal biopsy tissue.
An optimized micromethod for the determination of soluble acetylcholinesterase and pseudocholinesterase in gastrointestinal biopsy tissue is introduced. Enzyme activities were obtained from measurements of total activity and activity in the presence of an inhibitor of pseudocholinesterase. Optimal conditions of measurement were established for enzymes in serum or erythrocytes. In intestinal tis...
